Man Fatally Crushed Between Vehicles At Highway Rest Stop In Cherry Hill: Police

Both vehicles were unoccupied, authorities said.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A man died after after getting crushed between two unoccupied vehicles Wednesday at a highway rest stop in Cherry Hill, authorities said.

The collision happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Walt Whitman Service Area on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to State Police. The victim — Luis Santiesteban, 41, of Yakima, Washington — succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

A Dodge Ram with a trailer was parked in front of a Peterbilt semi-trailer in the parking lot. Both vehicles were unoccupied, said Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, a State Police spokesperson.

Santiesteban, who police described as a pedestrian, walked between the two vehicles when the Peterbilt rolled forward and struck both Santiesteban and the Dodge, Lebron said.

Santiesteban was trapped between both vehicles and seriously injured. He was brought to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police did not say who was responsible for either vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation. No other information was available as of this writing.
