Cherry Hill School Fire Stemmed From Roof Construction: Fire Officials

Damage to the building was contained to the roof area, officials said.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - Firefighters from Cherry Hill responded to a blaze at Henry C. Beck Middle School early Friday.

At around 1: 19 a.m., fire officials found a smoke condition in the building and a small fire on the roof, the Cherry Hill Fire Department said in a statement.

The fire was extinguished within an hour; no injuries were reported. Damage was contained to the roof area.

Cherry Hill Fire Department Fire Marshal Joseph Cornforth told Patch the board of education is in the process of coordinating roof work at the majority of local schools.

The fire was ruled accidental in nature and attributed to torch work done done to the roof Thursday, Cornforth said.
