RALEIGH, NC — Rep. Donald Norcross is in stable condition after suffering an emergency medical event over the weekend, his office said on Monday.

Norcross, who represents New Jersey's 1st congressional district, had a medical emergency "likely related to his gallbladder" while traveling over the weekend, according to a statement from his office.

He was admitted Sunday to UNC REX Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he is receiving "excellent medical treatment," the statement said.

Norcross, 66, expects to be medically cleared to fly in the coming days and will complete his recovery with Cooper University Health Care in South Jersey.

No other information about his health was provided. Patch contacted Norcross's spokesperson with questions but didn't immediately get a response.

At about 2:30 p.m. Monday, Norcross's office issued a news release saying the Congressman would be in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday for a press conference to re-introduce a bill.

About 45 minutes later, his office shared the news about his health.

The bill — entitled the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act — aims to guarantee the right for public-sector workers to organize and collectively bargain in states that don't have those protections.

Norcross, a Democrat, has represented New Jersey's 1st congressional district since 2014. The district covers all of Camden County and portions of Burlington and Gloucester counties.
