West, Camden Catholic Football in Playoff Hunt

Cherry Hill West football’s quest for the first playoff berth in school history is getting closer to fruition, as the Lions sit in seventh place in South Jersey, Group 4 through six weeks of the season.

The top eight teams will make the postseason, with the top seven games from the first eight counting toward power points.

But the Lions are one of three teams in the top 10 with just five games played thus far this season, making the eight-point gap between West and fourth-ranked Clearview tighter than it first appears.

West will have to plow through the remaining teams on the schedule—Moorestown, Bishop Eustace and Camden Catholic—without quarterback/defensive back Rodney Williams, who broke his fibula and is out, potentially through the first week of the playoffs.

Only one of the township’s two other teams, Cherry Hill East and Camden Catholic, still has a shot—the Cougars are virtually eliminated at 0-6, while the Irish are on the playoff bubble in Non-Public Group 2 at 2-3.

Camden Catholic still has Seneca, Gloucester Catholic and West to play before the playoff cutoff.
