West Football Loses Williams to Broken Leg

The senior could be out for a month.

If Cherry Hill West is going to make the football playoffs for the first time in school history, it's going to have to do so without its star.

The Lions lost starting quarterback and defensive back Rodney Williams to a broken leg, an injury the Syracuse-bound senior suffered against Woodrow Wilson Saturday, for around four weeks—and West has just three regular-season games left before the playoffs begin.

It was initially thought Williams aggravated a bruise suffered earlier in the season, but the senior confirmed he broke his fibula—the smaller of two bones in the calf—following a hospital visit the day after the game.

“I can't believe this happened,” he tweeted later that day.

It's the second straight season Williams will miss multiple games because of injury—last year, he was out the first three games of the season due to a preseason hamstring injury.

Williams indicated he was getting a second opinion on the leg, and was hoping to be back for the first round of the playoffs, though West will still have to try to get through Moorestown, Bishop Eustace and Camden Catholic without him.

Despite being without Williams for much of the game Saturday, the Lions still held off Woodrow Wilson, thanks in part to backup quarterback Joey Argentina and running back Tyrone Williams.

West hosts Moorestown Friday night at 7 p.m.
