Courtroom Nap Lands Woman in Jail: Palmyra Police

Police say the Burlington City woman also tried to conceal drug paraphernalia in her mouth prior to her arrest.

A Burlington City couple ended up in trouble after they nodded off in court while the judge was calling their names, according to Palmyra Police.

Police said Deena Turner, 23, and William Estelow, 21, were unable to stay awake during court proceedings on Oct. 24 and appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. A Palmyra officer escorted them out of the courtroom to investigate further.

Police discovered Turner had eight outstanding warrants for her arrest in Burlington City Court, Camden Court and Pennsauken Court. While she was being placed under arrest, police found a glass pipe used to smoke narcotics on Turner, the report stated. Officers also noticed her trying to conceal empty baggies—used to hold a controlled dangerous substance—in her mouth.

Turner was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence. Bail for both charges was set at $5,000, and her outstanding warrants totaled $10,922. She was unable to post bail and was lodged in Burlington County Jail.

Estelow also had an outstanding criminal warrant for his arrest from Camden Court, police said. He was released on his own recognizance by Camden Municipal Court.
