Man Charged With Murder After SWAT Standoff In South Jersey: Police

A man accused of murder surrendered to police after a standoff over the weekend, local officials said.

LINDENWOLD, NJ - A 23-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of a Winslow Township man on Friday night, authorities said.

Ronin Austin Nevels of Lindenwold is charged with first degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Isaiah Shaw on Egg Harbor Road shortly before 10 p.m., according to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Lindenwold Police Chief Michael P. McCarthy Jr.

Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene, MacAulay and McCarthy Jr. said.

An investigation by CCPO Homicide Unit detectives and Lindenwold Police detectives later identified Nevels as a suspect in the shooting and, on Saturday, Nevels barricaded himself in a home in Gloucester Township, MacAulay and McCarthy Jr. said.

The Gloucester Township Special Response Team (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Team used “critical incident protocols” at the standoff, with Nevels ultimately exiting the residence.

He surrendered himself to Gloucester Township Police and he was placed under arrest.
Nevels is currently lodged at the Camden County Correctional Facility.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
