Poll: Phillies Ace Roy Halladay Out 4 to 6 Weeks

It's the news Phillies fans were dreading all weekend.

Phillies ace right-hander Roy Halladay is heading to the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder, according to the team.

But that's not the most disturbing part. Officials for the Fightins' said the two-time Cy Young Award winner won't return for six to eight weeks.

In last Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Halladay left the game after just two innings with shoulder soreness. After an examination by doctors in Philadelphia Tuesday, the suggestion was to head to the DL, retroactive to May 28.

The All-Star pitcher hasn't exactly been lights out this year, putting up a 4-5 record with an ERA almost at 4.00, leading many to believe he's been pitching hurt all season.

The Phillies have won four of their last five games, and as of today, are two games over .500—a feat they'd been struggling to achieve all season and have only done a couple other times. 

Catcher Eric Kratz has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. It's unknown who could take Halladay's place in the rotation, if one is needed in the long run. And if you think there's still another Roy we could snatch up for the year, think again; reports are saying Roy Oswalt signed Tuesday with the Texas Rangers. 

The Phillies play Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. against the New York Mets before an off day Thursday. They head home Friday.
