Alleged Burglar Says He Didn't Steal Dog

Jason Bacino admitted to multiple burglaries in Cherry Hill, police say, but claimed he isn't a dog thief.

A Cherry Hill man who was arrested in connection with a burglary in Deptford admitted to four other break-ins in Cherry Hill, Cherry Hill Police said, including one where a dog went missing.

But Jason Bacino, 35, denied stealing the 13-year-old Maltese named Jessie from a Downs Farm home last week, police said.

The dog went missing Nov. 6, and owner Laurie Kaneff told CBS3 the burglar—who police say was definitely Bacino—ransacked the house and stole jewelry and family heirlooms, but she was most concerned for the dog.

Now, police say it's likely the dog just slipped out a door when Bacino broke in that day.

Bacino, who's been arrested on burglary charges previously, including in Voorhees Township, was charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of attempted burglary.

His bail was set at $35,000 on the Cherry Hill charges, and Bacino, who is currently in jail, is scheduled to make a court appearance on Nov. 26 in Superior Court in Camden.
