Police Blotter: DWI, Shoplifting, Vehicle Theft

Plus: a john is stunned when he awakes to find his lady of the evening has made off with his car.

Recovery of Stolen Property
On Aug. 13, officers on patrol in the Heights of Collingswood located a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass that was suspiciously parked. A registration check revealed it had been stolen from a previous site in Camden City. The investigation was turned over to Camden City police.

Shoplifting
At 2 p.m. Aug. 14, the Aldi supermarket in Collingswood reported a shoplifting. Not long after, responding Collingswood police units located a female suspect that matched the description of the perpetrator. Kim Dimattia, 40, of Collingswood was found to be in possession of a foldable lunch basket containing a pack of Tupperware, a jar of maraschino cherries, and an insulated lunch bag, all proceeds from the Aldi.

Subsequent to her arrest, police also discovered the Dimattia was wanted on more than $600 in outstanding warrants. She posted bail and was released on her own recognizance.

Driving While Intoxicated
On Aug. 17, Collingswood police operated a DWI checkpoint over a period of three hours and in extreme weather. During that time, they apprehended four motorists on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Tavener Miller, 29, of Westville; Nicole Leaver, 29, of Berlin; Thomas Cannizzaro, 55, of Philadelphia, PA; and Thomas Fadako, 45, of Atco. All four were arrested and their driver histories requested from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

Vehicle Theft
On Aug. 20, police received reports of the theft of a 2012 Ford U-Haul stolen during the overnight hours from Madison Gardens Apartments. On Aug. 23, that vehicle was located by Cherry Hill police, occupied by four individuals whose identities were not disclosed. Further investigation is ongoing.

Burglary
On Aug. 20, unknown actors entered a unit at the Madison Garden Apartments through an unsecured rear window, stealing a Glacier Bay toilet and an American Classic medicine cabinet from an unoccupied apartment. An investigation into the burglary is ongoing.

Defiant Trespass, Theft
At 10 p.m. Aug. 21, officers were dispatched to Pacific Avenue to meet with a deliveryman from Pat’s Family Restaurant who was stiffed when it came time to pay for a food order. The woman met him at an unoccupied apartment, then indicated that she needed to go to her vehicle to get some cash. She never returned.

Rosemary S. Phillips, 37, of Collingswood, who resides in the building, confessed to the crime, police say. She was charged with defiant trespass and theft.

Vehicle Theft
During the overnight hours of Aug. 21-22, unknown actors stole a Bobcat and the 30-foot black trailer on which it was housed along with a couple of log splitters and some miscellaneous equipment from the A building of the Heights of Collingswood apartments. The Bobcat is valued at $22,000. It has not yet been recovered.

Unlawful Taking of a Vehicle
On Aug. 25, Collingswood police were notified by a resident of the River View Apartments that a prostitute he had brought home with him stole his vehicle while he slept. A subsequent investigation determined that the vehicle was located in the vicinity of 7th and Sycamore streets in Camden City, in good condition. It had been impounded by Camden City police.

The john was reprimanded for unlawful solicitation and the investigation into the vehicle theft is ongoing.
