Today: Get a Free Treat for National Pretzel Day
Collingswood's Philly Pretzel Company will offer customers a free pretzel to honor the snack's unofficial holiday.
What’s better than a delicious, crunchy and salty on the outside, pillowy on the inside, Philly soft pretzel? When it’s free, of course.
Tuesday is National Pretzel Day and Collingswood’s branch of the is getting in on the celebration by offering a free pretzel per customer all day. There’s no catch involved—no purchase necessary, no special hours to get the deal.
“We normally make anywhere from 1,200 to 1,300 pretzels a day,” said Josh Bennett, a baker at the Collingswood Philly Pretzel Factory on Haddon Avenue. “We’re definitely making more for Tuesday, maybe 2,000 or even more.”
More than 100 Philly Pretzel Factory locations between upstate New York and South Carolina will be giving away free pretzels to mark the unofficial National Pretzel Day, which gained renewed attention in 2003 when former Pennsylvania governor and Philadelphia mayor Ed Rendell championed a day to commemorate the tasty treat.
Collingswood customers can come in during the shop’s normal business hours Tuesday —6 a.m.-6 p.m.—for a free pretzel. People actually eat pretzels at 6 a.m.?
“Oh yeah,” Bennett said. “We usually have people lined up outside, waiting for the store to open.”
