CHS Students Organize Relief Goods Drive for Survivors of Philippines Typhoon

Cranford High School University Program students are accepting donations through Nov. 25.

Students of Cranford High School’s University Program have organized a relief goods drive for victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Phillipines.

They are collecting canned, bottled and dry foods, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, laundry detergent, and first aid kits, which can be dropped off at 2 Estelle Place or 302 South Union Avenue in Cranford until Nov. 25.

Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on Nov. 8 and has killed 4,700 people, according to U.N. officials. However, an exact number may never be known.

Many of those who survived lost their homes and are without food, water, transportation and communication. 3 Million people have been displaced by the Typhoon and 2.5 Million are in need of food assistance, the U.N. estimates.

The students have found two cargo forwarding companies that are waiving shipping costs for relief goods to the devastated area throughout November.

LBC Express Inc. is accepting relief goods in boxes with a dimension of 28” x 18” x 17.” Boxes can be purchased at any LBC Express branch. Donations can be sent directly to their headquarters at 69 Belleville Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ.

Also, RDR Cargo Express is accepting donations. They are located at 76 South Washington Avenue, Bergenfield, NJ. RDR will also pick up donations within their area of scheduled pick-ups, according to the CHS University Program.
