Cranford Centennial Pool Opening Delayed Due To Pump Supply Shortage

The township is still waiting for a new pump to arrive for the Centennial Pool. It will remain closed until a pump is installed.

CRANFORD, NJ — The summer pool season has begun, but Cranford's Centennial Pool has been unable to open due to a replacement pump that is yet to be shipped.

Although the pump was first ordered back in February, the township wrote in a message to the community, which was shared in a Cranford Facebook group, that the equipment is still in Shanghai, China and is not set to ship until August.

Shanghai has been under a COVID-19 lockdown for the past several weeks, which has severely impacted the global supply chain, the township explained.

"This was the worst possible news to get after being given multiple dates for delivery that we shared with pool members," the township wrote.

The township was told that the pump would be delivered May 25, then June 1, June 8 and now August.

"It was always our intent to open the Centennial Pools and we performed the annual maintenance and painting in preparation for the new pump and opening," the township said.

The old pump has been removed and the township is currently working on renting a temporary pump and motor so that the pool can open.

People are encouraged to visit Orange Avenue Pool in Cranford instead, as they work to open Centennial Pools.
