Cranford's Centennial Pool Is Open + Will Host Westfield YMCA Camp

CRANFORD, NJ — After controversy surrounding the opening of Cranford's Centennial Pool this summer, the township announced that pool is now open.

Centennial Pool was unable to open for several weeks due to a replacement pump getting stuck in transit. Although the pump was first ordered in February, the township said the equipment was stuck in Shanhai, China.

At a council meeting earlier this month, the Township Administrator said a temporary pump underwent its final inspection, so the pools could now open.

Pioneer, a Westfield Area YMCA full-day indoor/outdoor weekly camp, will be located at the Centennial Pool and Fitness Center in Cranford.

Campers entering grades 1-3 can enjoy fun and engaging activities, games, changing theme weeks, arts & crafts, recreational swim and weekly special events, according to the YMCA.

Pioneer camp is offered weekly through Aug. 19 from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Limited spots are still available.

A YMCA membership is not required, and there is a special rate for Cranford residents. You can register online at westfieldynj.org or call 908-301-YMCA (9622) and ask for the Welcome Center.

According to the YMCA, "the camp curriculum promotes teamwork, enhances self-esteem and builds skills while incorporating the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility."

Westfield Area YMCA camp staff receive over 20 hours of pre-camp training including certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid with EpiPen administration, asthma inhaler training, anti-bullying prevention, behavior management, child abuse awareness and more.
