Eight Union County High Schools Make List Of Best In New Jersey
The schools were judged based state tests results and how well the students were prepared for college, according to the rankings.

Eight high schools in Somerset County have been ranked among the best high schools in the state according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best High Schools list.
- Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth made the top ten in the state, coming in at 10th in New Jersey and No. 225 in the United States.
- Union County Magnet High School in Scotch Plains was ranked No. 11th in New Jersey and No. 235 in the nation.
- Summit Senior High School in Summit was ranked 26th in New Jersey and 436th in the nation.
- Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy in Elizabeth made the list at No. 28 in the state and 516th nationally.
- Westfield Senior High School in Westfield made the top 30 in the state, coming in at No. 30 in New Jersey and No. 536 in the nation.
- New Providence High School in New Providence was 35th in New Jersey and 672 in the nation.
- Academy For Allied Health Sciences in Scotch Plains was ranked No. 33 in the state and No. 599 nationally.
- The last of the eight Union County schools to make the list was Academy For Information Technology in Scotch Plains, which came in at 46 in New Jersey and 1,362 in the nation.
Summit Senior High School, Union County Magnet High School and Elizabeth High School all earned gold medals.
Academy For Allied Health Sciences, Academy For Information Technology, New Providence, Westfield and Alexander Hamilton Prep were all awarded silver medals.

The top school in New Jersey was Biotechnology High School in Freehold, which was ranked number 19 nationally. High Technology High School in the Lincroft section of Middletown and Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro round out the top three.
U.S. News & World Report reviewed more than 21,000 public high schools nationwide. Schools were judged “based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college,’’ according to the website.
