Auditions For The Theater Project's 7-Week Program

Aspiring young actors get a chance this Saturday to show off on stage for placement in a seven-week program and theaterical production courtesy of The Theater Project and Union County College.

Anyone 10-18 years of age can audition from 2-4 p.m. at Union County College in Cranford. The Theater Project's annual College for Kids Summer Theater Workshop is a seven-week program that immerses student participants in the full theatrical process, culminating in the public production of a play in the Roy Smith Theater at Union County College's Cranford campus.

Interested auditioners should contact Mary Iannelli at 973-716-6654 or by email at mary.iannelli@prudential.com to schedule a specific audition time and to receive necessary information prior to auditioning. Enrollment is limited, and both previous and new participants are encouraged to audition. Students admitted to the workshop will incur a registration fee of $125, with discounts available if siblings are also accepted.

The Theater Workshop runs from June 22 to August 15 with rehearsals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Students will rehearse "The Audition" by Don Zolidis, a hilarious and heartbreaking look at the madness of auditioning for a high school production of "A Chorus Line" and the actors who brave the process for that perfect part. The workshop will conclude with a three-performance run of "The Audition", August 13-15.

Students will learn acting and vocal techniques, character development, presentation skills, staged makeup, and more. They will also experience the technical side of theatrical production, including stage management, set design and construction and lighting design, as well as important behind-the-scenes fundraising and marketing side of theater through the selling of tickets, program advertisements and promotion.
