Miller Prunty Takes Over As Mayor Of Cranford

She brings with her more than 45 years of service in different official and volunteer roles.

CRANFORD, NJ —Township Commissioner Kathleen Miller Prunty was sworn in as Mayor of Cranford on Sunday night.

This is her third term as the township's mayor, after previously being elected in 2021 and 2022 on one-year terms.

She and former mayor, Dr. Terrence Curran, also took oaths to assume new three-year seats on the Cranford Township Committee. They defeated three other candidates in November's General Election.

During her 45 years serving Cranford in both official and unofficial roles, Miller Prunty has led multiple community-wide initiatives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she created and oversaw a Township information newsletter for resources and guidance amidst the challenging times.

She also served as Commissioner of Public Safety and Director of "Downtown Cranford," where she organized community events that showcased local businesses, artists, and activities.

As Mayor, one of her main focuses will be on the continued enhancement of public safety education, such as electronic bike and scooter messaging on how to share the streets and sidewalks.

Curran will begin his second term on the Committee after first being elected in 2022. During his tenure, he has championed many initiatives, such as the Shade Tree Commission, which works to enrich the land with new plants and find new ways to conserve the environment.

Curran is a veteran of the United States Marines, a trauma surgeon, and a former police officer for Jersey City.

Sunday's Reorganization Meeting was attended by Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill and Assemblywoman Linda Carter, who administered the oath of office.

Paul A. Gallo was also sworn in for a new term as Deputy Mayor and is the new Commissioner of Public Safety.
