CRANFORD, NJ — In an effort to support a local resident who is facing terminal brain cancer, Cranford Theater is hosting a special movie charity event.

The theater will be hosting a showing of "Jumanji" on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. All proceeds from the movie will go toward the Vilela family who are dealing with their husband and father, Victor Vilela's aggressive form of cancer.

According to a GoFundMe that was created for the family, Victor was diagnosed with a brain tumor 16 years ago. He was in a car accident which prompted him to be taken to the hospital, where the tumor was discovered through scans.

Victor was officially diagnosed with Glioblastoma Astrocytoma Multiforme — an extremely aggressive form of cancer.

The Cranford resident has already gone through two invasive surgeries, the first one in 2006 and the second in 2012, according to the GoFundMe. He has gone through chemotherapy, radiation, and physical therapy as well.

Recently at his doctor's visit, Victor was sent to the emergency room for further testing. His tumor grew in the last few months, causing pressure on the area that controls his breathing, which signals to his lungs that he can no longer take deep breaths, the GoFundMe explains.

Victor was told he only has a few months left to live.

"At this point — all avenues have been exhausted," the GoFundMe states.

Donna Schautz, the creator of the GoFundMe, is asking the community to help out with Victor's end-of-life care. At the time of his diagnosis, Victor was ineligible for life insurance, according to the GoFundMe.

Donations will be used for hospice, some bucket list outings, burial expenses and his ten-year-old son, Mauricio's, future.

The GoFundMe has already raised more than $37,000 for the family. You can still donate by clicking here.

Tickets for the movie charity event cost $15 per person. You can send a Venmo to @viviana-gago or email Vivianagago27@gmail.com with questions.

Donations will also be accepted at the door.
