Suspicious Powder At Cranford Verizon Building Prompts Hazmat Response: Police
Union County's Hazmat team was called to the scene after a report of an unknown powder substance in the Verizon building, police said.

CRANFORD, NJ — *Update: Cranford Police concluded the investigation and determined that the substance was non-hazardous. All emergency personnel have left the scene.
Cranford Police and Fire Departments rushed to the Verizon building in Cranford Friday morning after a fire alarm was activated.
Cranford spokesperson Matthew Nazzaro said an employee told emergency units on the scene that they found an "unknown powder substance on a package" at around 11:47 a.m.

We’ve concluded our investigation and HAZMAT determined that the substance was non-hazardous. All emergency personnel have since left the scene.
As a result, the Incident Commander requested Union County Hazmat to come to the scene out of an abundance of caution, Nazzaro said.

Nazzaro said there are no reported injuries, and emergency personnel remain on scene continuing their investigation.
The Verizon building is located at 1100 Orange Avenue.
