CRANFORD, NJ — A new Thai restaurant recently had its official ribbon cutting in Downtown Cranford.

Thai Mama, located at 110 North Avenue West, was welcomed into the community earlier this week.

According to Downtown Cranford, present at the ribbon cutting were owners Jorge and Mullika Tobaru, Mullika’s mother Jenny, Chef Kim, Mayor Brian Andrews, Andis Kalnins from the Cranford Chamber of Commerce, DMC Board Member Paul LaCorte and Downtown Cranford Director Caren Demyen.

Jorge and Mullika Tobaru have restaurant experience and were looking to open a Thai restaurant based upon the traditional recipes Mullika grew up with. When a space became available at North Avenue, they jumped at the opportunity.

“We felt that owning a restaurant in Cranford was a great opportunity that we couldn’t pass up,” Jorge told Downtown Cranford.

Mullika had dreamed of opening a Thai restaurant, and now she’s able to share that dream with her husband and mother, according to Downtown Cranford.

Customers can dine in at Thai Mama or order takeout or delivery from services such as Grubhub and UberEats.

Thai Mama offers a variety of appetizers, salads and soups, including Thai dumplings, curry puffs, satay chicken and Tom Yum soup. Entrée options include classic dishes like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, noodle soups, fried rice and more.

The restaurant’s specialties include duck, drunken noodles, and Khao Soi Gai soup, a curry soup that originated in Northern Thailand, according to Downtown Cranford.

Jorge said the restaurant makes an effort to focus on customer service, which he believes helps set them apart.

Thai Mama is open for lunch and dinner Monday, Wednesday-Saturday, and for dinner on Sunday. You can place an order online or give them a call at 908-854-3666.

Another Thai restaurant recently opened in Cranford, as well, in August.
