NEW JERSEY — The weekend proved to be deadly on New Jersey roads as six people lost their lives in a single crash in Essex County. Several crashes were also reported across the state resulting in casualties.

6 Killed In Car Crash

Six people were killed following a fiery car crash in Newark over the weekend, authorities said.

The crash happened Friday night at the intersection of Raymond Boulevard and Blanchard Street. The vehicle went off the road, became airborne, and hit a support column before landing on the ground and bursting into flames, authorities said.

Two of the people have been identified as coaches at a high school in Jersey City.

Crossing Guard Fatally Struck Trying To Save Students

A Burlington City School crossing guard succumbed to his injuries Friday after protecting two students from an oncoming vehicle, officials said. Bruce Morlack, 74, was struck by a car as he escorted two students across the street. He was hospitalized in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries.

Man Attacked Stepfather With Hammer

A Woodbridge man is charged with attempted murder after striking his stepfather in the head several times with a hammer, authorities said.

The man survived the attack but remains in critical condition.

Woman Killed In Car Crash

A woman was killed and a man injured following a car crash in Robbinsville on Sunday. The driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle following the crash, police said.

Man Stabs Girlfriend To Death

A man stabbed his 32-year-old girlfriend to death on Sunday morning, according to media reports.

Shanniyya Major of East Orange was found with multiple wounds in the 100 block of 21st Street in Livingston before 4 a.m., NJ.com reported.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. According to reports, the attack began inside an apartment in Irvington. Her boyfriend was charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses.
