7 Killed, 4 Critical In Multiple Weekend Crashes On NJ Roadways

Here's what made news during the weekend:

NEW JERSEY — Several crashes took place in New Jersey over the weekend bringing the death toll to seven, with two children among four people who were injured. Here are the headlines from the weekend:

3 Killed In South Jersey Crash

Three people were killed Saturday after a speeding car crashed into a utility pole and went into a farm field in Vineland, police said.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene. Driver Ian P. Rodriguez, 23, and passengers 26-year-old Joquan Carter, 26, and Shamere Bryant, 24. All three were from Millville, police said.

According to police, Rodriguez was speeding west on Mayslanding Road in a 2006 BMW when the vehicle suddenly veered right near Panther Road, hit a pole, and overturned while striking an irrigation winch in a field northwest of the intersection.

The passengers were ejected, police said.

2 Children Critical After Vehicle Hits House

Two young children were critically injured after the vehicle in which they were traveling in was hit by a Mount Laurel man fleeing police and then struck a home in Gloucester City, authorities said.

On Saturday, 32-year-old Joshua Chrismon drove a stolen vehicle into Gloucester City. He was being pursued by Deptford Township police, when he hit the vehicle, forcing it into a home in the 500 block of Morris Street, officials said.

Two passengers, ages 7 and 8, were critically injured and taken to a hospital, as was the 24-year-old driver, who suffered minor injuries. The home was not in danger of collapse, police said.

Chrismon was charged with four counts of second-degree assault by auto, four counts of third-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree eluding, third-degree receiving stolen property, fourth-degree resisting arrest, third-degree criminal mischief and numerous vehicle infractions, according to police.

72-Year-Old Woman Killed In Crash

A 72-year-old woman died after the vehicle she was driving left the road and crashed into trees in Lacey on Saturday, police said.

Around 11:28 p.m., authorities responded to Route 539 in the area of Mile Marker 20, for a report of a possible motor vehicle crash.

On arrival, police found a 2012, Grey Jeep Liberty, partially overturned, and approximately 50 feet into the woods.

Rosemary Pfluge of Whiting, 72, was trapped in the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.

The fire department extricated her from the vehicle and took her to Community Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

According to initial investigation, Pfluge was traveling northbound on Route 539 when her vehicle left the road, collided with several trees, and partially overturned.

Pedestrian Killed In Mount Laurel Crash

A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after they were struck by a vehicle in Mount Laurel.

The pedestrian was crossing Rt. 73 between Clover Road and Roger Walk around 11 p.m. when they were struck by a vehicle, police said.

The pedestrian has not been identified and the crash remains under investigation.

2 Killed, 2 Injured In Paterson Crash: Report

Two people were killed and two injured on Sunday after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into a pole in Paterson, officials said.

The crash took place around 4:05 a.m. near the intersection of 18th Avenue and Rt. 20 south and they were taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center.

Two people were pronounced dead at the hospital, while the driver and another passenger were listed in critical condition, officials said.
