Animal Cruelty Charges Filed After 7 Geese Killed in Spotswood Hit-&-Run
Geese are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, & intentional harm to them could violate state and federal regulations, cops said.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The Spotswood Police Department has charged a person in the death of seven geese, police said Friday.
The incident took place on July 14, when a vehicle struck multiple geese crossing the road.
When police arrived on Devoe Avenue near the lake, they found seven dead geese in the street. The driver had already fled the scene, police said.

On Friday, police identified a suspect and charged them in connection with the deaths.
The person faces seven counts of animal cruelty along with violations of New Jersey Fish and Wildlife regulations. Motor vehicle citations related to the incident will also be issued, Spotswood police said.

According to police, the investigation benefited significantly from collaborative support provided by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife and the Monroe Township Police Department.
