Tax Levy Aid Application Delays East Brunswick School Board's Budget Hearing
A public hearing on the school budget will be held at a later date, the district said.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — The East Brunswick Board of Education has postponed its scheduled meeting as it continues to wait for a response regarding its Tax Levy Incentive Aid Program application.
This state program, included in New Jersey's proposed fiscal year 2026 budget, would allow qualifying districts facing budget shortfalls to exceed the standard 2 percent tax levy cap.
The district has applied for this special aid, which is specifically designed for schools spending below the state's adequacy standards—those not meeting New Jersey's constitutional requirement of providing a "thorough and efficient education"—and whose current property tax levy falls below what's considered their local fair share.

A public hearing on the school budget was originally scheduled for this week but has been delayed as the district awaits formal approval from the New Jersey Department of Education.
"We will provide adequate notification of the rescheduled board meeting and public hearing on the budget, once we have formal communication from NJDOE," district officials stated.
