East Brunswick BOE Gives Community Update On Superintendent Search

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – The East Brunswick Board of Education recently gave the community an update on the superintendent search.

The new superintendent will step into the shoes of Victor Valeski, who announced his retirement earlier this year, with an effective date of February 2026.

In a brief message, Board President Heather Guas thanked the community for participating in focus groups and community-wide surveys, saying local “voices have helped shape a clear and thoughtful leadership profile that reflects the priorities and values of our East Brunswick community.”

“We are grateful for the time, insights, and care you brought to this process. Your voice was heard, and your input truly matters. It ensures that the search for our next superintendent is guided by what matters most to our students, families, staff, and community—and that the final selection will reflect our continued deep commitment to the strong traditions of excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts, while advancing a future that supports the success and well-being of every learner in the East Brunswick Public Schools,” Guas said.

The BOE had earlier approved the appointment of Hazard Young Attea Associates (HYA) to lead the superintendent search. Four search firms had applied, and the Board interviewed all four firms. The BOE zeroed in on HYA, as it has more experience in identifying quality education executives than any other firm in the industry, having assisted Boards with successful selections in more than 1,600 searches with student enrollment ranging from less than 500 students to upwards of 640,00 students.
