The tour is an annual event, where law enforcement officers from all over the country ride their bikes to Washington D.C. to raise awareness of law enforcement officers who fell in the line of duty.

"The purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty and raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum," the police department said.

In 1997, Officer Patrick Montuore of Florham Park, NJ decided to organize a four-day bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington, DC to raise public awareness about law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, and to ensure that their sacrifice is never forgotten.
