East Brunswick’s Sam Mattis Advances To Olympic Finals
The athlete qualified by throwing a season-best 63.74 meters on Thursday. The finals are scheduled for Saturday, 7:15 am.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – East Brunswick native Sam Mattis now has a shot at an Olympic medal.
Mattis qualified for the finals in the discus by throwing a season-best 63.74 meters during Thursday’s qualifying round in Tokyo.
The 27-year-old East Brunswick High School alumnus was placed 8th overall in the qualifying rounds, with the top 12 advancing to the finals. Mattis became the only American to move to the finals after Mason Finley and Reggie Jagers failed to qualify.

Mattis made the U.S. Olympics team for the first time when he was placed third during the Track & Field Olympic discus trials held in June. He was the 2015 NCAA national champion in the discus.
