EB Photography Company Celebrates 50 Years

Lifetyme Photo & Video has photographed over 17,000 events in the past 50 years.

Photos from 17,000 events can capture lifetimes worth of memories.

This year, Jay and Jan Grosholz, of Appleby Lane, are marking the 50th anniversary of their family business, Lifetyme Photo & Video.

A photography and videography company based in East Brunswick, Lifetyme specializes in special event, social event and corporate photography, as well as portraits.

The company started in the early 1960's with Jay's father, who worked as a baby photographer for Middlesex General Hospital in New Brunswick, now known as Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

From his time photographing newborns, his offerings expanded to include bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings and sweet 16 celebrations, he said.

A native of Old Bridge, Jay moved to Florida with his mother while his father ran the business in New Jersey.

He met Jan in the sunshine state and after working in another field, Jay returned to New Jersey in 1987 with his family to take over the business as his father retired.

Jan said that from the time Jay's father photographer their newborns, many clients have returned to use Lifetyme's services again.

"What stands out now...is the fact that Jay's father years ago did people's weddings, and we've done their kids' bar mitzvahs and now (we're) doing their kids' weddings," she said. "That's kind of neat."

The Grosholz's have even shot the weddings of their two children, one of which was during a 109 degree day in Connecticut.

"Hottest day ever in Connecticut history," Jan said.

Jay estimates that over the course of those years, the company has documented approximately 17,000 events.

The company's focus on solid, personal customer service has remained strong, resulting in what he said was the "best customer service in the industry."

Nobody...gives back a CD with all the images three days after the wedding. We do," he said. "We're head and shoulders above anybody in this industry in customer service. I know it sounds like a bold statement, but it's true. We practice it."

In recognition of the company's 50th anniversary, Lifetyme Photo & Video is offering a $50 credit for all past and current customers to be put toward any upgrades or add-ons.
