EB Rescue Squad Delivers Baby
The infant made an early appearance in an ambulance on April 1.

April Fools Day contained a rare occurence for the East Brunswick Rescue Squad - the birth of a baby.
At approximately 11:05 p.m. on April 1, East Brunswick Rescue Squad members Susan Bender-Klein, Fred Beisser, Michael Cerame, and Sheldon Lee were dispatched on an emergency call to assist a woman who was on the verge of giving birth, according to a press release from the squad
The crew met the woman at a township residence, assessed her condition and began transporting her on Ryders Lane to the hospital. On the way, Bender-Klein requested the ambulance pull over into the Wawa parking lot, and a few minutes later, a baby boy was delivered.

“Care was turned over to the hospital staff and the rescue squad crew returned to our quarters feeling totally elated after helping to bring a new child into this world,” Beisser said.
This was the third delivery for Beisser and the fourth for Bender-Klein, but deliveries in the field are rare, due to East Brunswick's proximity to hospitals, said squad captain John Hosie.
“This baby was determined to make an appearance on April Fools’ Day and he successfully fooled everyone including the family, EMTs and paramedics in doing so,” Hosie said.
