Fundraiser Launched For Spotswood Volunteer Firefighter Killed In East Brunswick Crash

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – The Spotswood Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of a volunteer firefighter who was killed in a motorcycle crash in East Brunswick on Saturday.
Around 5:16 p.m., on Saturday, East Brunswick Police Officers responded to the intersection of Summerhill Road and Racetrack Road for the report of a crash involving a motorcycle.
Robert J. Oross, 22, from Spotswood was critically injured and pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured and remained at the scene of the crash.

Oross was a second lieutenant with the fire department.
“Please keep the entire Oross family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this extremely difficult time. RJ, may you rest in eternal peace, we have it from here brother,” the Spotswood Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook.

According to the Helmetta Fire Department, Oross (also known as RJ), “was not just a firefighter from a neighboring town, he was a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.”
A fundraiser was launched to help the Oross family during this time.
“RJ was an amazing free spirit and was one of those people you only meet once in a lifetime, there was never a sad time when RJ was around, we will never forget our brother, our friend and our son,” the GoFundMe said.
Donations have reached $17,263 as of Monday, with contributions still coming in.
A service for Oross will take place on May 23, according to the fundraiser.
