Gastropub Bar Louie Closes East Brunswick Location

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – Bar Louie has closed its gastropub in East Brunswick.

Located in Brunswick Square Mall, a notice is now posted at the door of the pub, which confirms its closure.

“We regret to inform you that this location is permanently closed,” reads the notice.

The gastropub first opened in East Brunswick in 2016. The nearest location is now situated 54 miles away in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.

According to several media reports, Bar Louie has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

In a bankruptcy filing with the District of Delaware court on Wednesday, Bar Louie revealed financial challenges - assets ranging from $1 million to $10 million against liabilities between $50 million and $100 million, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

The company and its four affiliated entities reported 5,001 to 10,000 creditors, with US Foods leading as the largest creditor, owed more than $1.8 million, the magazine reported.

Bar Louie, a casual dining place established in 1990, operates 49 restaurants across 19 states, according to their website.

The chain is known for its laid-back social atmosphere, signature handcrafted martinis, and a menu featuring appetizers, flatbreads, salads, burgers, and sandwiches.
