Key Stretch Of Rt. 18 South Closed Monday Night

Beginning at 11 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Rt. 18 southbound will be closed from Racetrack Road to Rues Lane:

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Rt. 18 south is closed and detoured Monday night at Racetrack Road in East Brunswick, the DOT announced.

It is closed for a water main installation.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Rt. 18 southbound will be closed from Racetrack Road to Rues Lane. The following detour will be in place:

  • Drivers on Rt. 18 south will be directed to take the exit ramp for Racetrack Road and turn right
  • Turn left onto Summerhill Road/CR 613 southbound
  • Turn left onto Rues Lane/CR 617 eastbound, back to Route 18

This work is part of the $86.1 million federally funded "Rt. 18 drainage and pavement rehabilitation project," which is repairs on approximately four and a half miles of Route 18 in East Brunswick.

Work includes milling and paving, improvements to the drainage systems and storm water basins, utility relocation, installation of new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps and upgrading guiderail.

The project is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
