Man Dies After Driving into Sherwin-Williams Building

James McGee, 89, of Edison, was pronounced dead on Saturday afternoon after his car left the road and drove into the Sherwin-Williams store.

An 89-year-old man died on Saturday after he drove his car into the Sherwin-Williams Paints store on Route 18.

According to a Nixle message from the East Brunswick Police Department, late Saturday morning, James McGee of Edison was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Rues Lane in the left turn lane, approaching Route 18.

He drove diagonally across the intersection, hit the curb and left the road and entered the parking lot for the paint store and then struck the building.

Police responded to the scene at approximately noon to find the car driven into the building, according to the message.

The East Brunswick Rescue Squad and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics arrived on scene and transported McGee to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m., according to the message.
