Man Charged With Attempted Murder Was In Legal Battle With East Brunswick Woman: Affidavit

A man accused of firing a gun several times into an East Brunswick apartment had been sued by the woman living there, the affidavit said

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The 43-year-old Matawan man who was charged with attempted murder for firing a gun multiple times at an East Brunswick home is involved in a legal battle with the woman who lives there, according to the police affidavit.

Sameh F. Kaldes was arrested Friday by East Brunswick Police and charged with attempted murder (2x), stalking, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and receiving stolen property.

According to an affidavit released by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, the incidents stem from a legal conflict with a woman who lives in the targeted apartment on Cranbury Circle.

The dispute began in May 2024 when the woman was allegedly bitten by Kaldes' dog while delivering packages to his Morristown Road home in Matawan. She filed a police report and a lawsuit on March 19, 2025, against Kaldes and Rita Kaldes, seeking compensation for medical bills, expenses, and legal fees related to the dog bite, according to the complaint.

Following the lawsuit filing, authorities say Kaldes repeatedly visited the East Brunswick apartment throughout April, peering through windows and shining a blue laser pointer into the windows.

The situation escalated when Kaldes allegedly fired a gun toward the apartment on three separate occasions - April 4, April 17, and April 18. Each incident prompted 911 calls reporting shots fired, and police discovered multiple bullet holes in the apartment's windows, siding, sliding door, and walls, the complaint said.

Investigators pieced together evidence including witness accounts of a dark blue vehicle fleeing the scene, video footage showing a dark blue Mercedes registered to Kaldes' mother parked near the apartment, and automated license plate reader data placing the vehicle in the area five times between April 2 and April 11.

Police also found a video on Kaldes' Facebook page showing a blue laser pointer being activated inside a vehicle, according to the complaint.

During the third shooting incident on April 18, police say Kaldes drove a blue Mazda with license plates stolen from Old Bridge that same day. When authorities stopped the vehicle the following day, they arrested Kaldes and discovered .22 caliber bullet cartridges, suspected MDMA, and a crack pipe in the car. A blue laser pointer was found on his person, the complaint said.

According to the affidavit, during police questioning, Kaldes admitted to visiting the woman's apartment complex multiple times and shining a blue laser pointer into her residence.
