East Brunswick, NJ – The Raritan Valley YMCA was chosen as one of 124 youth programs from the USA Swimming Foundation’s nationwide network of swim lesson providers to receive grant money in 2024. The grant award will go toward the Y’s continued efforts to provide free or reduced-cost swim lessons. This year, the USA Swimming Foundation has awarded a total of $780,000 in its initial round of funding to programs across the country.

“We are thrilled to be chosen for this grant,” said YMCA CEO, Gina Stravic. “The money we received will be put toward our year-end goal of graduating 60 new kids from our learn to swim program.”

“With our community-based programming, the Y is teaching over 1600 people to swim annually and maintains a swim team of 250 youth ages 6-18, reported Brian Rose, Senior Aquatics Director.” The Raritan Valley YMCA maintains a strong commitment to water safety and runs multiple public information workshops at local libraries each spring and summer. The USA Swimming Foundation vetted more than 400 applications through a competitive annual review process and chose 124 youth and 38 adult programs to receive funding.
