EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Route 18 in East Brunswick is closed until further notice following an overnight construction mishap, authorities said.

At around 1:34 a.m., East Brunswick police were informed that a contractor hit a 24-inch gas main at Route 18 and Racetrack Road as part of the Route 18 Drainage and Pavement Rehabilitation project, police said.

Route 18 is currently closed southbound at Racetrack Road, police said.

“Since this is a NJDOT project, they are responsible for overseeing the repairs and managing the detours,” police added.

Timing of road repairs and reopening were not immediately available.
