Rt. 18 North In East Brunswick To Be Closed, Detoured 3 Nights This Week

This work is part of the $86.1 million federally funded Route 18 rehabilitation project.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Route 18 northbound In East Brunswick is scheduled to be closed and detoured for three nights this week as a pavement project advances, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) said.

In the event of inclement weather, scheduled work will be postponed.

On Monday and Tuesday beginning at 9:30 p.m. Monday, until 5 a.m. Tuesday and again on Tuesday night at the same time, Route 18 northbound is scheduled to be closed from Tices Lane to Edgeboro Road.

The closure is necessary for drainage pipe replacement. The following detour will be in place:

  • Motorists on Route 18 northbound will be directed to turn right onto Tices Lane
  • Turn left onto Old Bridge Turnpike/CR 527, back to Route 18

On Wednesday beginning at 9:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday Route 18 northbound is scheduled to be closed from Milltown Road to Tices Lane. The closure is necessary for drainage pipe replacement.

The following detour will be in place:

  • Motorists on Route 18 northbound will be directed to turn right onto Milltown Road
  • Turn left onto Old Bridge Turnpike/CR 527
  • Turn left onto Tices Lane, back to Route 18

This work is part of the $86.1 million federally funded Route 18, East Brunswick, Drainage and Pavement Rehabilitation project that will make repairs on approximately four and a half miles of Route 18 in East Brunswick, Middlesex County.

Work includes milling and paving, improvements to the drainage systems and stormwater basins, utility relocation, installation of new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps and upgrading guide rail.

Improvements will also be made to various intersections throughout the project limits. The project is expected to be completed in late 2027. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
