Rt. 18 North And South Closed Overnight This Week

Starting Monday, April 15, Rt. 18 will have overnight closures and detours all this week:

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Starting Monday, April 15, Rt. 18 will have overnight closures and detours as the roadway rehabilitation project continues in East Brunswick.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Monday, April 15 until 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16 and again on Tuesday night, April 16 at the same times, Rt. 18 northbound will be closed and detoured between Racetrack Road and Milltown Road.

Rt. 18 southbound will be closed in the same area beginning at 11 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning.

In addition, beginning at 11 p.m., Wednesday, April 17 until 4:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18 and again on Thursday night, April 18 at the same times, Rt. 18 northbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured between Rues Lane and Racetrack Road. Rt. 18 southbound will be closed in the same area beginning at 11 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the following morning.

The closures are necessary to install traffic signals at Arthur Street, Racetrack Road, Cindy Way and Rues Lane. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detours.

This work is part of the $86.1 million federally funded Rt. 18 Drainage and Pavement Rehabilitation project that will make repairs on approximately four and a half miles of Rt. 18. Work includes milling and paving, improvements to the drainage systems and storm water basins, utility relocation, installation of new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps and upgrading guiderail. The entire project is expected to be completed in fall 2026.
