Celebrate Bastille Day 2013 Sunday

Bastille Day is commemorated on July 14, the day that the people of Paris stormed the Bastille prison in 1789 and effectively began the violent overthrow of the monarchy to make way for a republic.  

Similar to Independence Day in the United States, Bastille Day is a national holiday that marks the beginning of modern France.

If you can’t make it to France anytime soon to partake in the celebration, here’s a guide to Bastille Day celebrations in your neighborhood.

Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton is celebrating Bastille Day on Sunday by recreating classic French impressionism paintings as sculptures! Come tour the exhibit between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today. 

You can enjoy a glass of wine and a Provencale picnic basket filled with meats, cheese and French bread from the Peacock Café.  There will also be a Grounds For Sculputre face-painting artist giving people faux mustaches!
