Driver Charged With DWI After Parking On Shoulder of Highway

Among the other recent news reported by East Windsor police, a man was charged with marijauna possession in Etra Park; another driver was charged with DWI after crashing his car; and an 82-year-old Monroe man was charged with shoplifting.

The following information was released by East Windsor Township Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Driving While Intoxicated

Bernadett Bede, 21, of The Orchard apartment complex in East Windsor, was arrested about 4:30 a.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and careless driving after Officer Robert Davison found her 2000 Volvo parked along the shoulder of Route 133 West near the exit ramp leading to Route 130, police said.

“The officer stopped to check on the vehicle and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver. Her speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot and watery,” police said in a news release. “She was given field sobriety tests and arrested for DWI. She was later released pending court action.”

Drug Offense

Ruben Jaigua-Rocano, 26, of the Chestnut Willow apartment complex in East Windsor, was arrested about 6:45 p.m. on Feb. 21 in Etra Park and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and with being under the influence of marijuana, police said.

Officer Troy McWhorter was on patrol in the Park when he spotted a “suspicious” vehicle near the boat launch. As the officer approached the vehicle, he smelled an odor of marijuana, police said.

“Investigation revealed that the suspect was in possession of a partially smoked marijuana cigarette and a plastic bag of marijuana,” police said in a news release. “He was arrested and it was learned that he had several outstanding warrants.  He was later released after posting bail on the warrants.”

Driving While Intoxicated

Arthur Schwartz, 70, of the Princeton Junction section of West Windsor Township, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failing to stop, refusing to submit to a breath test and operating an uninsured vehicle, police said.

Police said Officer Wayne Hummel was dispatched to the area of Dorchester Drive and Wiltshire Drive to investigate a report that a vehicle which had gone off the roadway and was stuck in the grass.

“Upon arrival, the driver was observed to have an odor of an alcoholic beverage and bloodshot, watery eyes,” police said in a news release. “He was given field sobriety tests and arrested for DWI. He was later released pending court action.”

Shoplifting

Julius Epsenhart, an 82-year-old resident of Monroe Township, was arrested about 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with shoplifting after he allegedly exited the ShopRite supermarket on Route 130 with $64.16 worth of groceries for which he had not paid, according to police.

Theft

Police are investigating the theft of a child’s jacket – valued at $130 – that occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Feb. 13 at Gold’s Gym on Route 33. The jacket was taken from the gym’s child care room.

Obstructing Justice

Manuel Guaman, 32, of Hightstown, was arrested about 2:10 p.m. on Feb. 26 and charged with obstructing justice, hindering apprehension, driving while suspended, being an unlicensed driver, and related offenses, police said.

Officer Scott Brown stopped the white Chevrolet that Guaman was driving on Lake Drive because it bore commercial license plates without having the required signage, police said.

“The driver provided the officer with a false name and personal information. Investigation eventually revealed the driver’s true identity and the fact that he had a suspended driver’s license,” police said in a news release. “The suspect was arrested and later released pending court action.”
