East Windsor District To Celebrate Arrival Of Electric School Buses

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Aug. 26, district officials said.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — The East Windsor Regional School District recently received its first four electric school buses, replacing four diesel buses. These are the first electric school buses in Mercer County, the school district said.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, 10 a.m. at the East Windsor Regional School District Transportation Depot, 503 Mercer Street, Hightstown.

Funded through the 2023 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean School Bus Grant Program, the buses from Wolfington—named EV 1, EV 2, EV 3, and EV 4—are fully electric and capable of traveling approximately 120 miles on a single charge.

“The addition of several electric school buses to our fleet represents a positive step for the EWRSD community. By reducing emissions and operational costs, we are contributing to healthier and quieter bus rides for our students,” Superintendent Mark Daniels, said.

“It also reflects the district’s continued focus on innovation and recognition of the need for environmental responsibility.”

Each bus will be assigned to an elementary school, and the transportation department will rotate them among different routes so that as many students as possible have the opportunity to ride an electric bus, the school district said.

The transition will significantly reduce emissions and operating costs, while providing students with a quieter, cleaner ride to and from school. There are two chargers from InCharge on site. Each will charge two buses simultaneously.
