The individual who sent threatening emails to Hightstown Councilman Rob Thibault has shared the emails with Patch. Thibault confirmed that the emails sent to Patch were, in fact, the ones sent to his personal email address.
Using the alias “Robert Langdon,” the person addressed the emails to Rob and Lisa Thibault. The first email, sent on May 4, stated, “There is a network of friends and supporters of ideas and people. Think twice about repercussions of actions you may take that results in a war of vengeance against your war of vengeance.”
The second email, sent on May 5, mentioned that the individual had heard that the possible firing of Borough Administrator Michael Theokas was in retaliation against the petition for referendum on the bond ordinance that appropriated money for the reconstruction of Borough Hall.
The email went on to say, “I think your group on council are upping the level of controversy to a point where retaliation will reach the employers of council members. The teachers may be protected by tenure but you and Bibens are not provided such protection. Firing Theokas could bring the wrath of Hightstown citizens upon all of you. The comment in the Herald blog about bullying will be proven if this action proceeds. You need to think twice about your actions and the effect upon your career.”
The sender of the emails told Patch that he thinks “Thibault is spinning this as a retaliation against the petition” and that the charges are without merit.
Thibault disagrees. “Now that his vicious threat has been public and the authorities are investigating, the perpetrator seems to be trying to spin his way out of a possible felony charge,” the Councilman said.
The second email also mentioned a rumor that the Council is planning on replacing Theokas with Hightstown Police Director James LeTellier once Theokas is fired. The email went on to say that “the ratcheting up of this whole situation will explode in massive retaliation through a recall to go along with a potential immediate referendum on the bond ordinance. Just what will be gained by proceeding? What will be lost is your first consideration.”
“With the threat addressed to my wife as well as me, I think any rational person would take the ominous warning ‘what will be lost is your first consideration’ for what it was clearly intended to be, a threat against my family,” Thibault said.
Additionally, Thibault said that he distributed copies of his emails to the media at the Monday night Hightstown Council meeting and that "Langdon" is simply sending the emails to the media now in an attempt to play the victim.
An investigation into these emails by Hightstown Police is ongoing; all threats are taken seriously, LeTellier said.
Here are the emails in full sent to Patch from "Robert Langdon":

Here is the second letter that Thibault claims threatens his life. Not releasing theater ignores that all council members have copies as do all of the petition committee as well as all the newspapers and dozens of others. Thibault is spinning this as retaliation against the petition and who suspects is Robert Langdon. Dan Brown created the character so you could ask him. The charges are false without merit. You can judge for yourself. I have heard worse at Borough Council meetings.RL
I read in the Central Jersey Windsor Hights Herald article, "Irene continues in Hightstown " , the comment that council actions in relation to a Wednesday personnel meeting to discuss the Borough Administrator is retaliation against the petition for referendum on the Bond Ordinance.
I think your group on council are upping the level of controversy to a point where retaliation will reach the employers of council members. The teachers may be protected by tenure but you and Bibens are not provided such protection. Firing Theokis could bring the wrath of Hightstown citizens upon all of you. The comment in the Herald blog about bullying will be proven if this action proceeds. You need to think twice about your actions and the effect upon your career.
There is a viral rumor that you are proposing replacing Theokas with the Police Director once Theokas is fired. This is coming from the council member opposition to your plans. It seems any potential plans by your group or is it the Gibbons group as reported in the blogs are being anticipated. This is becoming way to messy to continue. The ratcheting up of this whole situation will explode in massive retaliation through a recall to go along with a potential immediate referendum on the bond ordinance. Just what will be gained by proceeding? What will be lost is your first consideration.
