MSNJ Names New Director of Government Relations and Staff Counsel
The Medical Society of New Jersey Proud to Appoint Joshua Bengal, Esq. to the Position

The Medical Society of New Jersey (MSNJ) has named Joshua Bengal, Esq. of Glen Rock as the new Director of Government Relations and Staff Counsel for the professional society. Bengal brings more than a decade of legal and legislative affairs experience to the position, having served in various legal roles in New Jersey state government.
“Josh’s background in public policy, particularly as it relates to healthcare in NJ, coupled with his intricate understanding of the legislative process will be a great asset to our organization,” said Larry Downs, CEO of MSNJ. “As we look to 2022, MSNJ will continue to be a powerful voice in Trenton – advocating on behalf of patients and physicians alike to ensure that quality, comprehensive healthcare is accessible to all New Jersey residents.”
In his new position at MSNJ, Bengal will handle legal advocacy, manage legislative and regulatory affairs and spearhead policy development. He will be MSNJ’s point person in Trenton and will serve as a principal liaison to the American Medical Association on national policy issues.

Previously, Bengal served as the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Director for New Jersey’s Division of Consumer Affairs where he oversaw the Division’s legislative and regulatory work, including drafting proposed bills and regulations for the Board of Medical Examiners. Prior to that, Bengal served as a Deputy Attorney General where he prosecuted cases before, and then advised, various professional boards.
Bengal received a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University and a juris doctor degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
