Never Gives Up & Works Hard: East Windsor Star Student

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Lora E. who nominated Andrew "Jack" of East Windsor. Lora is Jack's teacher and said he works hard not only at school but is an active community volunteer.

How do you know the star local student?

Local community and I was also his teacher.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Jack is an incredible young man! He works hard, no matter what task he is undertaking. Academics don’t come easily to Jack, but he is honestly one of the few students I know who never gives up and works hard, not just for the grades, but because Jack values education as being the pathway toward becoming a productive adult.
Jack has played basketball for years, and although he hasn’t earned a starting position on our varsity team, he puts in the effort and hours he needs to succeed. His love of the game has driven him to volunteer his time as a team coach for students who are younger than he. He has also served as a one-on-one mentor to a handful of our younger generation here in the Hightstown/East Windsor community. Jack has a natural gift for getting along with others. His kind, personable friendliness seems to draw people to him. While all of this takes up time, Jack still manages to find the time to volunteer for RISE, one of our local community service organizations. In my eyes and many others, Jack is truly a star.
