4 Arrested In Shooting Where Child Was Present: Bergen Prosecutor

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting at an Englewood apartment complex where a 2-year-old was present, the Bergen County Prosecutor said.

A New York City man faces attempted murder charges. Three other people have been charged with related offenses, including endangering the welfare of a child.

Englewood Police investigated after a 911 caller said they heard gunshots at Forest Park Gardens. Witnesses told officers that multiple adults were arguing, and someone shot a gun. A 2-year-old child was among the adults, police said.

A 27-year-old man was shot in the leg, taken to the hospital, and released, according to Prosecutor Mark Musella.

Investigators identified Lavar Proctor, 44, of New York City, as the suspected shooter.

Englewood resident Dasia L. Bethea, 27, and Georgia resident Dana N. Proctor, 44 were charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Bethea, Dana Proctor, and 49-year-old Tierney Thompson of New York City were also charged with hindering the apprehension of another. All three were arrested February 4, Musella said.

Lavar Proctor was arrested in the Bronx, New York on March 2.

Musella said he faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree possession of a handgun while having a prior conviction, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The NYPD charged him with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, criminal possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful wearing of a body vest.
