Bergen County Father and Son Arrested for Child Pornography

Authorities investigating inappropriate sexual activity with a minor also discovered the father and son were acquiring child porn.

Authorities arrested a father and son duo from Bergen County who were allegedly using the Internet to acquire child pornography.

James E. Stoldt, 19, of Midland Park, was arrested Tuesday after police learned he allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with a 13-year-old acquaintance, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

The victim, now 14, was interviewed by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit and the Midland Park Police Department last week and “provided specific details regarding what had occurred,” which resulted in Stoldt’s arrest.

But further investigation after a search warrant at Stoldt’s residence revealed that he and his father, 58-year-old Richard Stoldt, were both using the Internet to acquire images of child pornography, Molinelli said.

“Computer media used by each, separate and distinct from one another, were found to contain images depicting the sexual exploitation of children,” Molinelli said.

Bail was set at $125,000 with no ten percent option, no contact with the victim and the surrender of his passport as a condition of bail. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

Richard Stoldt was charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child for being in possession of the aforementioned images. He was issued a summons and released on his own recognizance.
