Bomb Threat Evacuates City Hall, Downtown Businesses
No device found, threat considered a hoax directed at West Palisade Avenue business, according to police.
A bomb threat to a West Palisade Avenue business that evacuated city hall and area stores Tuesday afternoon was a hoax, Englewood Police said.
An employee of an unnamed business called police after receiving the threat at about 3:30 p.m., Detective Capt. Tim Torell said.
The threat caused six area businesses and city hall to be evacuated, Torell said.
The Englewood City Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit, the Englewood Fire Department and the Bergen County Police Department’s Bomb Squad investigated the threat and no device was found, Torell said.
"At this time, the incident appears to have been a hoax," Torell said. "Englewood detectives are investigating the matter and looking in to the possibility the caller may have been tied to a disgruntled employee of the targeted business."
Torell did not name the targeted business, but said the threat was not directed at the Bergen Performing Arts Center or city hall.
