Doctor Admits Hitman Plot, Council Rejects Rink Repairs in Top Englewood News

A 65-year-old doctor from Englewood pleaded guilty Wednesday to trying to hire a hitman to kill his lover and business partner, the state Attorney General's Office said.
After an outpouring of public opposition, the city council voted Tuesday night to shelve a bond ordinance that would have allocated $674,350 toward improvements to the John T. Wright Arena.
The council approved nearly $2 million in bonds to replace the Overpeck Creek Channel Wall. The two projects were initially joined in one bond ordinance, but the council voted to separate the issues at a work session two weeks ago.

State aid to Englewood's public school district will increase while funding for Englewood Cliffs is set to stay flat, according to Department of Education figures released Thursday.
Englewood is set to receive $9,701,580, an $291,458 increase over last year. Funding for Englewood Cliffs will remain at $282,411.
