Englewood Appoints New Health Officer

Health official set to begin term next month, report says.

The Englewood board of health voted unanimously Thursday to hire a new health officer after the former health official declined to accept a pay cut, NorthJersey.com reported.

James M. Fedorko, the new health officer, is set to being his three-year term Aug. 5, the report said. Fedorko's annual salary will be $90,000.

The public will have a chance to meet the new health official at an event scheduled for Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m., the board's next meeting.

City officials had sought to cut former Health Officer Nelson Xavier Cruz’s salary from from $127,000 to $99,000. Cruz first accepted the cut, but changed his mind, according to a Record report. Cruz later claimed he was being singled out as the only Hispanic head of a city agency.

City Manager Timothy Dacey had also proposed sharing Englewood’s health department with other nearby communities in a cost-saving move.
