North Jersey Man Bites Stranger, Tries To Rob Him After Asking About His Dog: Police

An Englewood man was arrested after another man reported being robbed and bitten while walking his dog Wednesday morning, police said.

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — Police arrested an Englewood resident after another man reported being robbed and bitten while walking his dog, police said.

The victim, an Englewood resident, was walking his dog around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday. He was near the intersection of West Englewood Avenue and William Street when another man came up to him. The stranger asked the resident about the dog, police said. The men talked for a moment, and then the dog owner turned to continue his walk.

He told police the other man grabbed him from behind and reached into his pockets. The dog owner fought off the other man, but "was bitten on the hand during the altercation," police said.

The victim went to police headquarters to report what happened, and gave officers a description of the stranger. While he was there, dispatchers took a call about a disturbance at the 7/11 on Tenafly Road. Police went to investigate, and saw a man who fit the description of the suspect.

Officers arrested Andre Hibbert, 37, of Englewood and charged him with a count of robbery, police said.
